The Sharpness of a Lone Star

$500.00

The Sharpness of a Lone Star is an original acrylic painting created by Vostai. It’s features are dark, moody, mysterious, and mystical. It’s framed in clay and colored glass beads, with a canvas sized at about 20 by 24 inches.

I started this painting in a period when I was heavily focused on my art and creating full-time. A lot of my paintings I think come from some sort of soup in my brain of things that I like and find pleasing, and topics I ponder. Something that was bouncing around in there when I had started was self-expression, and the way that isolation can affect how we perceive ourselves, present ourselves, and the ways that we express our feelings. The woman in this painting is mounted on a decorated horse, looking quite focused towards the future, and surrounded by barren desert. Aside from the literal reality of the scene, she’s actually embraced by various geometrical patterns, colors, and animals. They sort of blend in with the scenery, suggesting they aren’t physically present with her, and are arranged in such a way to seem like a shield around her. She is filling the emptiness and loneliness with her imagination, spiritual thoughts, and beliefs. It questions the structure of reality, and so feels a bit psychedelic and hallucinogenic. When I was making this painting, I was working on it almost exclusively after the sun had set, resulting in a very dark color palette. In my opinion, the best viewing experience is done so in a darker environment.
