The Face of it all
“I’m Nevaeh McElderry, however I go by my pseudonym, Minx, online. I am 24 years old and currently work from North Dakota, USA.
My usual medium is acrylic paint to canvas, but I avoid boxes and constantly push my boundaries, branching onto any path calling to me in the moment. Although, painting will always reside within the largest chamber of my heart.”
Why buy fine art?
Handmade art is possibly as human as human gets. When one purchases a painting, they are buying more than a pretty picture to hang on the wall. Years of life experience, hours of careful work, and a unique perspective goes into every piece. Artwork can describe moments and evoke feelings that many struggle to put into words and share in detail with others.
Everyone on some level wants to feel seen and surrounded by ideas that invigorate their brain and lighten their body, make them think, question, and peer into sides of life they wouldn’t otherwise consider much. A piece of art that draws you in can do just that. Elevate your space and brainwaves with a unique piece that can only be made by one person at one point in time.
The soul of it all
“Growing up I struggled a lot. I didn’t fit in, and I suffered from mental health issues caused by my upbringing, so I found it incredibly difficult to survive and be a functioning, healthy human being. I had no concept of a future… but I always had art. It felt so natural to me to always create, I almost can’t even call it a coping skill. It was just the only thing that made sense.
I ended up dropping out of high school and leaving home with a small, white garbage bag of clothes at 17. The years that followed were the most transformative years of my life to date. I faced things my brain had been holding back for the sake of hanging on. I finally was able to explore. I realized that I had been so withdrawn, so completely out of my body. I gained a thirst for knowledge, for growth, for vigor, for movement, for expression in a way I had never felt before.
The heart of it all
“My work is largely driven by my fascination with life, craving of science, and devotion to the spiritual, unseen aspects of it all. Animals, plants, and bold, vibrant colors and patterns are staples of my pieces.
It’s my goal to go large and explore expansive depth. I’ve always been a seer and a seeker, and this reflects in my preoccupation with details and somewhat chaotic compositions that often change drastically throughout the life of a piece. Sometimes I liken my mind to a rainforest, just absolutely teeming with hidden, obscure, fast-paced life force.”
I’ve now done things I had only ever dreamed of. I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought I could, although it may seem small to some. I’m now reenrolled in school, with plans to further my education. I talk! (I grew up selectively mute). I’m slowly discovering what I truly love, and who to cherish and embrace. Everything I list on this site, I create through my home studio, which I never would have attained without the help of some of the kindest people I’ve met.
Essentially, it is now my intention to push myself forward in all aspects. It’s my responsibility to the universe, for bringing me here to this moment despite it all. I have a job to do, words to speak, and work to create. It’s my honor to bring others a spark of curiosity, introspection, appreciation, and weirdness.
I have something to say.”
