When I made Pink Nettle, I really needed to experiment with something new and also get a little looser. I had been focusing on more detailed and complex work like “The Sharpness of a Lone Star” and various other paintings that are still in the works. I also had gone back to work and had less free time than I used to. I wanted to go back a little bit to a more abstract and fictional style, and felt burnt out. While I was making this one, I was able to really fall into the zone again and worked on it in all my free time for a few days. It was a lot of fun and the outcome was reinspiring! Using the pastel was as pleasing as I had hoped (it was a medium I had always wanted to try) and I came out feeling more refreshed. It’s a very pink and ethereal, light-hearted drawing.
